Prevent users from accessing PST

Guest

I am looking for help to prevent users from using their .pst files from
outlook.

I have set the DisablePST=1 and this has prevented users from creating new
ones and disabled autoarchive. But I have to stop them using their existing
..pst files and strictly use only exchange from outlook. Have looked around
quite a bit on the .ADM of outlook.. couldn't find this option.

Any little help, ideas would be highly appreciated.

Howdy,

I may be completely misinterpreting your goal, but...

If you "prevent users from using their .pst files", how will
they be able to use Outlook? That is, where will they put
their mail, contacts, etc.?

All the best,

Kenneth,
The overall goal is to have users only their exchange mailbox and exchange
related data (contacts etc) through outlook.
Currently each user has few GBs worth of .pst files on their workstations
and some on servers. Our current plan prevent them from accessing their .pst
and later getting rid of it.

So far I am able to acheive the following..
users cannot create new .pst
Autoarchive disabled

Hope this is little clear...
Am I thinking or doing something wrong ?
Thanks

If yes, please note the part that states that this is now a part of SP-2 for
Office/Outlook - did you install SP-2?

Yes I did see the article and have SP-2 installed. My understanding of that
article is that prior sp2 you cannot DisablePST per user but we could do it
per machine.

In my case I used it per machine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook

But just in case I tried per user as listed in that article as well (no
change in effect as it is disabled from machine already)

Also I have disabled the command ids 5506, 5576 so they cannot open new .pst
files.

So far these settings, disabled users from
autoarchive
open an existing .pst file
create new .pst file
export/import to a pst file

What I want now is to prevent them from using their current .pst and
strictly use outlook only for exchange.

Thanks

Perhaps you could use a logon script to disconnect their .pst file on
startup? And then institute user training? And discipline?

Definitely worth a try, how do I go about disconnecting ? Do you have a
sample script or any ideas. I really appreciate your help.
