How to Block "delivery of e-mail to PST" option

We would like to block the delivery of e-mail to pst.

The trick is that we would still like to allow adding a pst and allow users
to drag items into it.

I know this perhaps sounds a bit strange but that's just the policy of my
company.

We already implemented a GPO which sets the "DisablePST" registry key but
what this does is that it disables the possibilty to export to and import
from a pst so this is not what we want.

I am aware of the pst settings in the OUTLK11.adm and we could offcourse
apply the setting "Large pst: size to disable adding new content". If we set
this to 0 mb for instance, a user would no longer be able to 'enjoy' the fact
he had set Outlook client up to deliver e-mail to pst. But this also disable
the possiblity to add a pst and to drag items into it.

I once worked in a company where this option was simply greyed out in the
Outlook client, does this sound familiar to anyone?

Is there way to only disable the delivery of e-mail to pst (thereby still
allowing adding a pst and dragging items into it)

Tried the policy setting "Prevent users from making changes to Outlook
profiles" already?
It is under the Miscellaneous section.

Good suggestion. But I think this does more than what we really want. I mean
what if the user wants to add a mailbox he has right on, to his Outlook
client.

Rightclick the root of your own mailbox-> Properties and from there you can
also add an additional mailbox. I don't think that method is blocked by this
policy.

I didnt know that, even though I thought knew a lot about Outlook.

I think that if that indeed works, we will be implementing it this way.

Adding a mailbox was the first thing that came to mind that we want a user
to be able to configure. Besides adding a mailbox, there really isnt anything
that we want a user to be able to configure in the Outlook profile. At least
nothing I can think of right now. But I will test this Monday and look into
the other things we would like a user to be able to configure within the OL
profile and that this policy might prevent them from doing. Thanks again,
really helpfull information, as I said I will play around with this Monday.

Okay I have been playing around with it and it does exactly what we want. It
still alows a user to add a mailbox via properties of the mailbox via the
Navigation Pane.

There is however one thing: User that already have setup their OL client to
deliver to PST do not get into problems. Outlook is not not automatically
configured to deliver to the mailbox itself. In other words, if users already
had set up their client to deliver to PST, this setting stays this way. Is
there any way we can influence this? To force all Outlook clients no to
deliver to PST but to the maibox on the server.

Thanks again.

You can indeed do that but I recommend you do some small scale testing first
before deploying it to verify the effect on both correctly and wrongly
configured clients. You can use the Office Resource Kit to deploy Office and
thus also Outlook settings. There is an option to create or modify a mail
profile as well. Once you've made all these settings you can either deploy
it as a prf (just profile settings) or mst or cmw file.
