Presentation Skips slides

I have created a PP Presentation for a slide show
featuring pictures (JPeg)and have included music which I
am inserting from an audio CD that I run in the D: drive.
The slides are advanced automatically with 3 second
intervals. The problem is that when I view the
presentation random slides are skipped throughout the
presentation. I have tried using different transitions
and even tried with no transition for the slides, but
slides are still skipped and the screen is black as if the
there is a blank slide then it moves to the next slide in
the order...this continues throughout the presentation.
There is no consistency as to which slides are skipped, it
appears to be random. Any ideas?
Thanks

It sounds like a performance problem, i.e. PowerPoint doesn't have enough
time or resources to complete all of the tasks you have handed it. How
complex is the presentation? Do you use animations and transitions? Also,
are you using random transitions by any chance? As a test, increase the
timing to 5 seconds and see if the problem goes away. I would also "rip"
the audio tracks from the CD, save them to hard disk, and insert from there.
That will also improve your chances since reading from a hard drive is a lot
faster than from a CD.

The presentation is not very complex, just jpegs with no
animation. I removed the transitions from all the slides,
but the problem is still there. I will try to rip audio
to the harddrive and see if that helps.

Try increasing the slide transition timing too, to see if that makes a
difference.

In addition to comments from Sonia, here's a few things
that have minimized this same problem for us:

Defrag the hard drive if you think it needs it or not.

Use an image editing package such as Photoshop or Paint
Shop and get the image file sizes as low as you can with
acceptable quality. Check www.rdpslides.com in the FAQ's
for more info on doing this.

When you rip the CD audio to the hard drive, work that
file down too. Make it mono and try saving (under
different names) at lower and lower bitrates until you
reach bottom in acceptable quality.

All should help. Good luck.
