I have read with interest that prescott processors are not compatible with
SP2. Why is this so .. in laymans terms !! and is there a fix. I have just
built a new computer with a prescott and would like to upgrade from SP1a .
Have been to my mobo manifacturers website and down loaded all the latest
drivers etc but am not sure if this is enough to not kill my new puter if i
upgrade. Anyone got any info on the subject?

Bloody good source of info! This is added to my Favs permanently, thanks!

The posts in this group are lumping the Prescott CPU into one
group. There are Prescott socket 478 used with the 865/875
mainboards, Prescott socket LGA775 used with the 915/924
mainboards. My Gigabyte 865PE mainboard had a microcode
update (BIOS update) on 2004/3/5. My point being that there
is a big amount of unsubstantiated hoo haa. This whole subject
has nothing to do With Intel or Microsoft it has to do with the
PC hardware and software manufacturers.

WOW, a whole paragraph with ZERO content or relevance.
