Prescott CPU's & SP2

MVP Cary reports problems with Intel P4 Prescott CPU's on 865 chipset MoBos
and SP2,
I am wondering if anyone is having similar issues with Celeron D's?.
I have a number of MSI i865 based machines needing SP2 that are running
Celeron D's so any info on this is appreciated.

Known issue: you need to apply a BIOS update to your motherboard, if your
manufacturer has released one yet. See
<http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7447> for more, and an intermediate
workaround of disabling L1/L2 cache

The list of motherboards known to have this problem has expanded to include:

Albatron PX865 PE Pro
Shuttle SB61G2
Jetway i875P
Soyo P4I865P
Aopen AX4SG Max
Asus P4P800-E deluxe
Abit IS7-V
Foxconn 865A01-G-6EKRS

There have been such reports regarding Prescotts and they include the Intel
875 chipset also. There has been almost no details. There has been a
report that flashing with the latest mobo BIOS(especially MSI) fixes the
problem.

I wish that someone competent would post a definitive and detailed statement
as to what is known about this issue currently.

That list has no BIOS version nor mobo revision level so it's next to
useless.

None of the beta testers found this problem? Hard to believe.

I suspect that assertion is FALSE. Some description of this appears in web
forums back in June regarding RC2.

To the Original Poster:

Go to
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=xpsp2&slcid
=us

Search the SP2 newsgroups for this problem, you might find some help
there?

You can set your newsreader to read the groups (notice the scroll bar
at the right!) or you can read them online.

BTW, wouldn't it be nice if all the SP2 questions went to the SP2
newsgroups? I suspect lots of folks don't know about them.

Thanks for that info, reckon we will have to hold off applying SP2
until it gets sorted out.

To make you feel slightly better, my desktop also hopes it will be soon.
All the other (slower) PCs in the house had a good laugh.

BTW I have emailed MSI here in OZ , they are usually quick with their
responses to technical questions. I will keep you informed.

Here is the reply I received from MSI

Hi Robert:
Intel 865 had no feed back or problem with CeleronD+SP2
So far, only 651M-V had feed back and requires BIOS update.
Cheers
