XP won't boot after install of SP2

I searched for an answer to this on the boards but I could not find it. I
did a clean install on my parents PC and then tried to upgrade to SP2. After
the SP2 install the computer reboots and shows the Windows XP splash screen
and immediately reboots. I then get the screen that shows "Safe Mode," "Safe
Mode with Netowrking," etc. The computer will not boot into anything but
regular safe mode.

I have searched for an answer and found a resolution for the Prescott based
PC's, but my PC is not Prescott based. I did try to do the Prescott fix but
it did not work.

My PC's specs are as follows:

-Intel D845 motherboard
-ATI 9600 AIW video card
-Soundblaster Sound Card
-Pentium 4 Processor

All drivers are updated. Can someone please help me?

Thank you

Although you did not mention how you installed SP2, the best way is to
download the entire file to the hard drive and then apply SP2.
Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 (to a newly created folder on your PC)
directly from Microsoft's download site.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=enNote: This file is 266MB in size but will only install the components thatyou need. After the download has completed, double click on the file(WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) to install.JS"mdofl" <[email protected]> wrote in messagesearched for an answer to this on the boards but I could not find it. Thank you for the reply. I have installed SP2 via the web and also via
download, and both ways produce the exact same result. After I installed it
the first time through automatic update I then rolled back the PC using the
recovery tool and installed it using the file you mentioned.

If you have the time there is a third way to get the job done and that is to
create a Slipstreamed CD that has SP2 already integrated. This way when you
do the Windows install SP2 is already included. Also take note that when go
to the Windows Update site Do Not download and install any Windows drivers,
they have been known to cause problems. You should download the motherboard,
video, sound card, Etc. drivers from the PC manufacture's web site and
install as needed.

I use AutoStreamer to create a slipstreamed CD, AutoStreamer is easy to use
and for the most part self explanatory
