Prefetch (re-post?)

JAX

If this turns out to be a re-post, I apologize.

Somehow, it seems, prefetch has been disabled. Nothing is showing in the
prefetch folder.

I have downloaded and applied several "script" files over the past several
days and suspect one of them to be the culprit. They were all intended to
improve performance and all from well recognized sources.

The only reason I really noticed this is; one of the posters to this group
queried as to how to clear prefetch and that prompted me to check mine, it
was empty. I have used several programs since the last application of any of
those script files and would expect something to be in prefetch even if one
of those files had simply cleared it.

I've checked the web and the only information I could come up with was
explanations as to what prefetch is, no clue as to how to trouble shoot it.
Can someone point me in the right direction to solve this problem? Any help
will be appreciated.

JAX,

Do a Google search for this program (28KB); it will do what you want
including restoring your default WinXP settings:

Windows Prefetch and Control 1.0.0

JAX;
1) Go to Services and set Task Scheduler to Automatic. Prefetch won't add any
PF files if this is turned off.
2) Start/Run/Type: regedit /ENTER
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management\PrefetchParameters
Make sure Value Data is set to 3.
3) Start/Run/Type: cmd /ENTER
Type (or copy and paste): rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks /ENTER
This should rebuild layout.ini
4) Start/Run/Type: cmd /ENTER
Type (or copy and paste): defrag c: -boot /ENTER
This should force boot optimization.

Thanks Wes,

You've don it again! It seems that you have come to my rescue several times
now. The problem was that I had disabled Task Scheduler.

You've offered a simple solution for one with a simple mind!

It's a curious thing, under dependencies, it doesn't show any other items as
being dependent on Task Scheduler. How's a guy to know? (rhetorical
question)

JAX;
The reason I knew was because I knew that it took the Task Scheduler and COM
+ Event System to make Bootvis work. And I could not make my Prefetch add any
PF files. So I set Task Scheduler to Auto and noticed that Prefetch was adding
files.
