Prefetch data, What about it?

R

Roy

Hello guys
Just have this perplexing problem that after the WinXPSp3 installation
the boot up just slowed down a lot( about 4 minutes!) this was far
from the just slightly more than a minute with the Sp2. Now there is a
notice in the Tune up utilities that the prefetch data was deleted..
I did not remember doing such , there if it was really deleted I would
like to know if there is a way to regain that file?
I am not sure where its located as I checked the Windows there is a
prefech folder with filled with contents that amounts to about nearly
8 megs?
Then how come its not recognized if its still there...?
What is going on?
I would really like to know more about this particular prefetch data
and how can its issue be resolved?
TIA
Roy

prefetch data is
expendiable and
when the files are
deleted,

windows will simply
rebuild them without
complaints.

faulty prefetchs can
casue issues, so
deleting them is a
good idea to begin
eliminating problems.

however, since the
issue seems to have
started after updating
the o.s.,

then perhaps the programs
starting need to be updated
or reinstalled as well.

therefore, another step
towards "elimination" is
disabling your non micro
soft startups and services.

click on start>run>msconfig

then under startup tab
disable any that are enabled.

also jot down which ones
they were.

then under services tab,
"hide" all microsoft services
and disable what remains.

jot these down too.

then reboot and see if
the system behaves better.

if so, then the problem(s) lies
within the listing you jotted
down.
