I will try to explain my situtation. I have XP and it is
very slow starting up when rebooting. I have read that
it should take less than 1 minute. Mine takes 4+
minutes. I understand that if I empty the prefetch
folder on occasion this will speed up the start up. Any
suggestions how to do this or any other help would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

Emptying the prefetch folder won't help. You need to isolate what is causing
the delay at boot.

Hi:

Regarding deleting prefetch folder contents, it is under Windows, so go
there and you will find prefetch folder and select all the contents and
delete.

The slow boot could also be caused some not so serious errors or conflicts
of services and files during the process. You can check if there are any of
such by go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer for listed
detailed information.

Hope this will help and good luck.

No it won't, unless the data in that has got thoroughly corrupted, which
is not likely. But if you recently installed SP2, that will have got
files badly scattered out of original optimised positions - for that
reason after SP2, the Prefetch is started over. you need to defragment
and then give things a few days (and three or four reboots) so the
optimisation can become effective again, and defrag once more
