Hi,
I've read that from time to time it would be a good idea do delete the
content of the folder %systemroot%\prefetch.
The problem is: since then my WinXP keeps this folder empty (yes, I have
enabled to show all system and hidden files) and prefetches nothing. So it's
kind of slow at the moment.
I've checked the registry settings at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management\PrefetchParameters
and it's ok ("EnablePrefetcher" is set to 3).
I have also tried the application "Jester2K Prefetch Clean And Control" and
enabled prefetching of "Application and Boot File Launch".
Also starting an application with "/prefetch:1" shows no effect, which
previously added the according application to the prefetch-folder,
obviously.
I've rebooted several times... nothing.
Is there any service necessary I may have disabled by accident (I have the
Index- and Task manager service enabled to start automatically, because I've
heard they might be neccessary for that item)?
