PPT 2007 Template/Master Slide Placeholder Confusion

I'm using PPT 2007 and need to create a template for a bulletin that others
will use. I've inserted the header onto the Master slide and want to add an
"Insert Title Here" placeholder. I have followed all the steps outlined in MS
PPT Help to "Create and Customize One or More Slide Masters," "Create New or
Reuse Existing PowerPoint 2007 Templates," and "Use Custom Prompt Text in
Your Templates." However, when I return to Normal view, the placeholder is
there with "Insert Title Here," but I can't click in it and enter the title.
I've tried both adding a new placeholder and re-positioning an existing
placeholder on the Master slide, with the same results. Any suggestions?

What if you create the placeholder with custom prompt text on one of the
slide layouts, instead of on the slide master?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried putting the placeholder with custom
text on the slide layout. Then I returned to Normal view and added a new
slide using the modified slide layout. The placeholder with the custom text
displayed for a split second, then disappeared. It happened so quickly that I
thought I was seeing things, so I did it again. Same thing--the placeholder
displayed for less than a second and was gone.

Any other ideas? All are appreciated!

Very weird.

Can you email me a sample file? Just a slide or two should suffice. echos at
indy dot net. If you would, please include the body of this email so I can
remember what it is I'm supposed to be looking at, thanks.
