PPS File Extension

Hi. I am recieving the following error when I try to open a pps file, "This
file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the folders option control panel"

I already have Powerpoint on my computer so I'm not sure whats going on. Any
ideas?

I also have a problem when I open XLS files I get thisa error message
"Unable to load associated objects.
Associated objects such as an embedded chart were not loaded. All other data
will remain intact"

Any ideas with this would be a great help!
 
The problem is in outlook express. I used the ideas given in another post for
the same problem. But it did not correct mine, next time I tried to open it
all these error messages came up, such as "Powerpoint cannot find the file
documents" and then Powerpoint cannot find the file "and". It seems as though
there is something wrong with my path but I don't know how this can be wrong
when I just use the browse button to find the file
