Yes,
Office 2003 basic came installed on Dell XPS 400
After getting PP 2000 installed Office 2003 wanted to be repaired.
After repair - Office 2003 works but Powerpoint 2000 seems uninstalled?

Well, I like to run a Detect and Repair of Office 2003 if I install anything
from 2000 after installing 2003. Did it just this morning, in fact.

Usually it's recommended you install oldest to newest, but usually running
Detect and Repair in 2003 eliminates the need to uninstall it, install 2000,
then reinstall 2003.

So what exactly do you mean by "ppt 2000 seems uninstalled"? What happens
when you try to start PPT after running the Detect and Repair in 2003? Did
PPT start before you ran Detect and Repair?

What if you do a search on your harddrive for powerpnt.exe? Do you find it?

Is your PPT 2000 installation a full standalone version, or is it an upgrade
version?

Rusty, I've never done this myself, but my best guess is:

Install PowerPoint 2000 to its own folder (ie, Program Files\Office2000 or
whatever, but don't let it install to Program Files\Microsoft Office)

Install Office 2003 again and let it install to any OTHER folder you (or it)
like. Just NOT the same folder as PowerPoint 2000)

See if that does the trick.

installed pp 2000 from office 2000 premium.
(msiexec.exe encountered a problem) but pp worked.
tried word 2003, had error message, but worked, then pp did not work and the
icon was gone. search shows .exe in preface folder!

Do as Steve suggested and install PPT to a separate folder using the Custom
Install option. Then open an Office 2003 application and run Help|Detect and
Repair.

However, if you double-click powerpnt.exe, does PPT run? If so, just
recreate the shortcut.

Did that with no luck, when one double-click on pp.exe win says it doesn't
know what program created it!

Yes I did as you suggested and installed to a different folder.
That's what did that with no luck suggests, you only suggest one thing to do
so why the question "which did you do"
It is apparent that I will have to uninstall O 2003, install O 2000 (just
PP) and then reinstall O 2003. Hopefully the installs don't crap out, I will
try this at some later date. Thanks for you replies.

so why the question "which did you do"

The question was because I wasn't clear on what "did that" referred to.
There were actually three suggestions in that response -- 1) install to a
separate folder using custom install, 2) then open Office 2003 and run
Detect and Repair, and 3) before doing those, double-click PPT to see if it
runs or not.

The specifics of why I asked really aren't important, though. The crux of
the matter is, we can't see what you're doing there so you (the collective
"you") have to be specific when posting in these groups. Vague questions and
responses don't get any of us anywhere. What seems clear to you might not be
clear to some, so you sometimes have to describe things in various ways
here, or at least more specifically than you might in person.

For example, earlier in the thread, you said you ran Word and got "an error"
but it worked. But then PPT wouldn't work. Well, it's hard to know if that
error was important or not without knowing what the error actually said.

I hope that helps explain why I asked for clarification.
It is apparent that I will have to uninstall O 2003, install O 2000 (just

Good luck with it.
