powerpoint prsentation in a 16 x 9 format

I want to creat a slide presentation in a 16 x 9 format to use on a LCD Monitor

Go for it. Just start with File, Page Setup and change the page size to
something proportional to 16 x 9. Do this BEFORE you add any slides so you don't
mess up the formatting after.

If you use PowerPoint 2007 (why did you hesitate to tell us your version?)
there are preformatted slide formats for those monitors.
