PowerPoint on Multiple displays

Jonathan Miller

I get the same problem as below but I have a Intel Machine
not a Mac. How do I fix it on a Intel Machine??? I had a
projector setup on my PC and had multi displays in PP.
Now since I removed the projector I have to select my
monitor before I can display any PowerPoint now. I can
not find a place to change it or remove the projector.

Jon

PPT2001: Problems When You View a Slide Show on a System
with a Secondary Monitor

This article was previously published under Q325190

SYMPTOMS
When you view a slide show on a system that includes a
secondary monitor, such as a slide projector, and then you
remove the secondary monitor, you may experience one or
both of the following behaviors:
The slide show does not start.
You cannot quit PowerPoint.
These symptoms may be intermittent.

CAUSE
This behavior may occur under the following scenario:
You connect a secondary monitor, such as a slide projector.
You view a slide show on the secondary monitor and then
save the presentation.
You shut down the computer and then disconnect the
secondary monitor.
You restart the computer and then try to view the slide
show.
This behavior may occur if there is a problem with the
PowerPoint Settings (9) file.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, move the following file into
the Trash:

Macintosh HD:System
Folder:preferences:Microsoft:powerPoint Settings (9)

The information in this article applies to:

Right click your desktop and select Properties > Settings. Disable monitor
2 (uncheck "Extend my desktop to this monitor). That should take care of
it. The next time you want to use the projector, you'll do the reverse and
re-enable monitor 2.

That didn't work. Infact I disable the Dual Head Matrox
completely and PowerPoint still thinks the Projector is
there.

I have a Matrox P650 with Dual Head capabilities. If I extend my desktop
onto the second monitor the slide shows can be started there. When I change
the settings and do NOT extend my desktop to the second monitor the option
to display on the second monitor is greyed out and the presentation runs on
the primary monitor.

I just change the settings and hit apply. I do not have to reboot or
anything. In my case it is obvious when I don't extend the desktop and hit
apply. The second monitor goes black. When I extend the desktop I see the
XP desktop on it.
