PowerPoint freezes on loading -- default printer issue

We're using PP in an academic environment. Faculty teach in classrooms and
their settings (including printer settings) travel as part of their roaming
profiles.

Some users can't open PP presentations. The issue is their default printer.
If the default printer does not have drivers on the classroom computer, PP
cannot find it and the presentation does not load.

We can work around this by setting the default printer to the MS Document
writers. Since the drivers for that are on all computer, everything is fine.
But that requires that people keep changing their default printer every time
they want to teach.

Is there a way to disable this so that PP doesn't check for a default
printer before loading a presentation? Ideally, the user should still be
able to keep their office default printer and open PowerPoint easily from
other computers where the printer drivers aren't installed.

Can you install appropriate printer drivers on the machines locally instead
of relying on the drivers on the network?

I'd think that would be easier on the users than changing their default
printer each time.
