Powerpoint 2007 text animation

Can anyone help on this very basic question: when creating slides with slide
transitions and (built-in) text animations, on hitting 'play' each slide
presents correctly - but on running slideshow, none of the text animations
appear. I have searched 'help' for this problem, with no success. Is there
an intermediate step that I need? This is running under Vista.

What animations specifically does this happen with?

Are you saving the file as PPTX (2007 format) or as PPT (97-2003 format)?

The text shows on the slide, but there is no animation.
Among the animations are 'fly in', 'diamond', and one slide with 'motion
path' where the starting point of the text is behind the main block on the
slide.
The file has been saved in both formats, with the same result.

I have not yet used 'setup show' - I was still testing the 'play' and run
from beginning - however, this is absolutely the correct answer and the
animations now run OK. Must remember that setup is part of testing too!
