PowerPoint 2007 save takes a LONG time

I'm in the process of rebuilding my hard drive and I've installed Office
2007. Some of the PP files I have are rather large 600 - 1200 slides and for
a number of reasons I cannot split them apart. Lately I've noticed that when
I save the file it will take a LONG LONG time, e.g. 5-15 minutes to save. I'm
running Sysinternals Process Explorer and I can see the PP is taking about
40% of my system (Duo Core 2.53, 4GB memory Vista Business x64, Performance
rating 5.4). Suggestions would be appreicated.

The files were converted from 2003 to 2007 format. I just double checked to
confirm that they are in 2007 format (extension is pptx).

I'm also using Sysinternals Process Explorer and it shows that PP is taking
about 30-50% of my 2.5Mhz Duo Core processer. I'm running Vista Business x64,
4GB of memory, about 100GB free space, my C drive is in a RAID 1. I'm into my
second week of my rebuild and still have some applications to install and
possible system tuning.

One of the files is almost 1200 slides and the other is 500 slides. Prior to
the rebuild of my HD I did not have any problems with the files. I've also
been working with another file of 85 slides and when I save, it takes about
10 seconds which seems long for such a small file.

Regarding the 1200 & 600 slide files. I was working with them earlier today
after a reboot making numerous changes to both at the same time (they are
about the same subject and must remain in-sync thus I need to work on both at
the same time). After about 4-5 hours of intense work the save became
impossible and I was forced to reboot to clear the issue. After the reboot
still the save is VERY long for these two files.

Only thing I can think is something like an antivirus program is
interfering.

I'm happy to report that I no longer have the problem. The bad news is that I
have no idea what the solution was. To my knowledge I did not do anything to
resolve the issue.

As a side test I copied the file to my USB thumb drive and took the thumb
drive to a test system where I have both PP2007 and PP2003 installed. I
opened the file in 2007 and saved as 2003. I then closed PP2007.

I then open PP2003 and PP2007 and from windows explorer I did a drag and
drop for each file to the respective PP application.

I then made a change (the same change) to each file. I then saved the PP2003
file and it took about 5 seconds. I then saved the PP2007 file and it took
about 17 seconds.

I went back to my main system, opened the PPTX file on my HD, made the same
change and then saved the file. It took about 17 seconds to save.

The results on the test system (P1.5 single core, 1GB memory, x32 WinXP)
where PP2003 & PP2007 was installed surprised me in that the save for the
PP2007 was more than three times as long as the save of the PP2003 file.

The save on my main system (P2.5 duo core, 4GB memory, x64 Vista Business)
was surprising in that it was very close to the time on the test system for
the PP2007 file.
