PP 2007 package to CD questions

Melissa

I had a PP show set up using 2007 running on Vista. It's a show of about
200 slides, with a music track. I'm wanting to Package it to CD to give to
a few people. (it's a wedding show)

I used the method from within PP explained on the MS site. The CD does seem
to actually work, but it takes a long time to bring up the first slide.

When you put the cd in a drive, at first, the User Agreement pops up for the
PP Viewer. Click yes, then nothing happens. If I browse the cd, trying to
launch the Viewer seems to work, but it takes a while. The viewer opens, and
you can then select the saved presentation, and click open. Once again, 3-4
minutes go by. I had walked away from the computer, thinking it wasn't
working, then came back, and the first slide was up. I hit the space bar,
and the presentation ran. (this was on a different system than the one the
show was built on)

I want to be able to give directions to "novices" as to how best to run this
show. What actually IS the correct sequence of clicks etc. when running a
"package to cd" presentation? I seemed to be able to get it to run by
flying by the seat of my pants. Some of my family won't be able to figure
that out.

This presentation will most likely be run mostly on systems running XP or
even 98. I have also saved the presentation in 97-2003 format, but have not
tried to save that one to cd.

TIA

It should just run automatically, although if you have 200 slides, the file
could be very large and take some time to open. It sounds to me as if that's
what is happening.

Take a look at the files on the CD -- how big is the presentation?

The 2007 Package for CD process will save the file as 97-2003 format anyway,
so you don't have to do that yourself. Note that the Viewer won't run on
some Windows 98 systems -- they must be Windows 98 SE.

You can tell your users to double-click the "play" file on the CD to begin
the presentation if it doesn't autorun. (If they have file extensions turned
on, it will show up as a "play.bat" file.) Some computers have the CD
autorun turned off, so it's a good idea to include this instruction.

It sounds like File Size problem.
You know, when you open a PowerPoint file, PowerPoint will ask a lot
of system resource to play the file.
If it is a large file, you have to wait for some time.

Package for CD in PowerPoint will automaticaly save the PowerPoint
2007 presentation in 97_2003 format.
And this process, all the smart art or other PowerPoint 2007 exclusive
graphic effects willl be save as images and thus creates a slideshow
with huge file size.

Therefore, the solution is to reduce the file size. To do you, you can
consider converting a PowerPoint to Flash SlideShow with a converter
at
http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash.html

This will change the PowerPoint slideshow in Flash format and reduce
file size by 90% (theoretaiclly).
Also, viewers can view it wiith a web browser and not need of
PowerPoint or PowerPoint viewer.

We have autorun off, that's why I was needing to give out good directions
for anyone who might as well. I have no idea of the computer savvy of our
new "in-laws".

Thanks for the answers, they cleared up my confusion.
