Powerpoint 2003 quits unexpectedly (all updates installed)

When I try to insert pictures into a presentation or change pictures in a
design template, PowerPoint quits unexpectedly. Sometimes it does it when it
is just sitting there. I am running Office 2003 Pro and have all of the
latest updates installed. It started doing this a couple of weeks ago
intermittently, now it is occuring so often I can't use the software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Insert", "Picture", "From file". This has not been a problem for about two
years. All of a sudden, a couple of weeks ago it started acting up. An office
mate is having the exact same problem. I reinstalled Office and it is still
doing it.

Yes, I wouldn't expect a reinstall to fix something like that.

Things rarely happen "all of a sudden" with computers, so I'd guess
*something* changed a couple of weeks ago that is causing PPT to crash when
you insert pictures. Since another in your office has the same issue,
perhaps you can come up with commonalities more easily. I'd definitely check
into recently installed software, including freeware and shareware utilities
and even regular updates like Windows service packs or Office updates, video
driver updates, things like that. Oh, I'd also try completely disabling the
antivirus program you have running and see if that makes a difference. (You
may need your IT staff to help with that.)

You can also try changing your hardware acceleration. Not sure it will help,
but it's easy to do and worth trying.

A similar situation occured to me where a visit to MS update site pulled
O.S. updates and also a service pack for PPT. The service pack has a
problem that causes code running for 4 years to crash. Check the version of
PPT including Service Pack and build to compare between computers.

Gotta love when that crap happens, eh?

Specially since our Tech Support dept. does that stuff without checking with
me or testing first. Nothing like living on the edge!
