Powerpoint 2003 freezes up when opening files

Hi. We just got a bunch of new machines with office 2k3 pro running on
windows xp pro. We've had alot of problems with freezing in most of the
office programs but have been able to fix most except the one in powerpoint.
Everytime we try to open a powerpoint file, the first slide shows up but the
program goes to not responding mode. If you wait (time varies depending on
the size of the file) it will load just fine. It seems like it's spending
alot of un-necassary time loading each slide. Anyone have any ideas?

For some background xp pro has sp2 installed with all current update.
Office has sp1 installed with all current updates. I tried using a hotfix
that microsoft has out, but it didn't work. Any help would be appreciated

We don't use Norton. We use Trend Micro.

Norton/Symantec's Office Plug-In would be my guess.

Having a local printer driver installed as default did help a little. It's
still taking a lot longer than it should to start up, but I noticed it will
probably take less than half the time it took before.

Oh, also make sure that everyone has local printer drivers installed and set
as default.

Do this before using PowerPoint seriously

I take that back. It didn't really help. I don't have this problem with
pc's that are running office 2k3 over Windows 2k pro.
