Powering off PC problem - PC turns on again by itself!!!

Since I connected my PC to Internet, I have run into the following problem:
- when I power off my desktop PC (Start/Shut down/Shut down), it shuts down
completely, but then again re-starts by itself after about 2 minutes...!!! :(

I did not have such a problem before I connected to Internet.
The PC does not restart, if I unplug the modem, so currently this is my only
(but very inconvenient) method of making sure that the PC shuts down...

So I am wondering if this problem is somehow related to some settings for
LAN Ethernet control device? Which setting is allowing the modem activity to
power on the PC?

I am using:
- MS Windows XP Professional SP2
- Kaspersky Lab Anti-Virus Personal
- MS Windows Firewall is enabled
- I do not share any files and I do not have any file-sharing software
installed on my PC
- Remote assistance possibility is disabled
- In MS Windows "Power management" I have disabled hibernate and suspend
modes, but it does not help to solve the problem

Pleeeeease, could you help me with advice on how to find a solution (Power
Management? Settings for LAN Ethernet control device? BIOS setup?)

Check the BIOS, I think you have a setting that says Power On LAN {or
something}. If you have disable it

just in case you havent solved the problem of the pc turning on:

threres a high chance that there is a setting in your Bios (press del to
access it when your computer starts up) that uses one of the following
devices to start:

MOUSE activity, KEYBOARD activity, LAN activiy, MODEM activity, ALARM (wake
at certain time) activity.

if any of these are whats causing it, youll be able to disable the options
in the BIOS menu.

if the option is not there, then the motherboard does not support that type
of pc awaken function, and the cause is something else.

remember to save the bios settings you made as you exit the bios menu to
restart the pc
