Power Surge on Hub Port

I get a power surge message on hub port with nothing attached. The port
works fine, however, the only way to get rid of the message is to disable the
port. I have a inspiron 8600 and dell says they just replace the entire
motherboard since the usb ports are hardwired on the board. So does that
mean I need to replace the whole board, or is there some process to narrow
down if there is another problem? The machine is 2 weeks out of
warantee..... Thank you dell.

Since the ports are integrated to the motherboard, you either replace the
whole motherboard (if it's a notebook you're looking at $500+ for the actual
board)... or if there is another port that is not surging, get a powered USB
hub, connect it to the non surging hub and use that for peripherals.

Great response.. just to chime in another option is a PCMCIA -to- USB
adapter card, though you may already be using your PCMCIA slot for
something else. =[
