not sure how, but i've lost most of the power settings. And, they don't stay
when i save them from the gui. So, can someone help with setting the correct
config to get my settings back? I've done 'Repair' from boot and have tried
Run> sfc /scannow. Neuther has correct the issue. I'd REALLY rather not do a
clean install, but it is looking like the product is just so inherently
unstable that i have no choice.

Yes, the product is 'inherently unstable' when using incompatible or corrupt drivers for devices. Power Options usually have
something to do with the BIOS, and compatibility for XP's ACPI. (The standby feature). You probably need a better BIOS.

With the exception of sound drivers for my Sound Blaster Live! card, i use
the inherent drivers of XP. The board is a less-than-1-year-old Abit with a
11/'04 BIOS date. There is an update, which i will flash soon. I finally just
used the universal Windows fix-all- a clean install. Docs are all on another
drive, for safety's sake.
And, have you tried installing SP2? Talk about a hazard! It takes 2-4 times
to get it in and stable!
But, my big question is- where is the config file with all of the power
mgmnt. settings, and what is it called? If i can edit the boot.ini file i can
handle that if i can find it.
