I attempted to change the power settings on my laptop and
when I told
it to save, I lost all of the power schemes and now it won't
let me
create a new one so I have no power scheme at all. Any
suggestions on
restoring them? I tried system restore with no success. Can't
find
anything in help section of XP.
Try the following.
Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit in the Open box.
Click OK.
In the Registry Editor, click on the + signs in the left hand
column to navigate to this registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls
Folder\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies
Right click on this key and select Export from the menu. Name
the file PowerHKLM and save it to a handy location such as your
Desktop.
Back in the Registry Editor look under that key.
You should see six subkeys numbered 0 through 5. If you see any
numbered higher than 5, right click on them and select Delete
from the menu.
Do the same for this registry key (except name the exported
registry file PowerHKCU),
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies
Restart your computer and check Power Options to see if the six
default schemes have been restored.
Good luck
