Power Save problem

Sometimes when I try to use my computer after about 8 hours of non-use, even
though the computer is on, when I press a (any) key to get the monitor to
display something, nothing happens. I know the monitor is on because the
green led on the monitor blinks. I know the computer is on because the led
indicator on the front of the computer is lit up and the NUM LOCK indicator
on my keyboard is lit up. No matter how many or what keys I press, the
monitor screen remains black and the green led is blinking. I then end up
re-booting my computer and the monitor works fine.

I don't know if there is a problem with the monitor, ot if the computer is
on standby and cannot wake up.

This doesn't happen every time

Check your power settings (right click the Desktop, click Properties,
click Screen Saver tab, click Power button). Click the Hibernate tab and
it it's enabled, uncheck it and click OK. See if the problem goes away.
If not, check the Power Schemes tab and change "System standby" to
Never and click OK. See if the problem goes away.

Some computers don't hibernate well and /some/ hardware prevents standby
from working effectively or not at all. If it only happens sometimes,
it may be going into standby which wakes up okay (non-use for short
periods), but in longer periods of being idle may go into hibernation.

Report back,
