We want to have the first three pages of our presentation with no page number
and then have the fourth page start as number "1." How do we do this?

This can not be done from a single presentation. The slide collection (page
numbering) can begin with zero or higher, but can not begin with a negative
number.

Therefore, you have several options.
1) Create two presentations and link between them (beginning the second
presentation on your current slide 3)

2) Embed a two slide presentation on the first slide whichyou have changed
to slide number 0.

3) Manually number the slides.
