power point / projector issues

Steve Schiff

When I use Power Point 2002 and insert MPEG movies into
slides, they won't play through the projector at a
presentation. They play well on my laptop screen, but
similtaneously, they fail to play appropriately through
the projector. (The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 600m with
1400x1050 resolution, running microsoft XP.) They "take
over" the projector screen, and eliminate the slide
format. If I convert the movies to AVI files, they play
without problem, though the resolution is terrible.
I have tried changing the screen resolution to match the
projector, without success.
Thanks for any help

The projector is probably set to 800x600 or something like that. See if
setting your laptop monitor's display to the same as the LCD projector's
helps with the thing about overtaking the screen.

As far as the MPEGs playing on the laptop and projector simultaneously,
it could also be a video card / hardware issue.

there.

I DID TRY SETTING THE LAPTOP MONITOR'S DISPLAY TO 800X600
WITHOUT SUCCESS. IN ADDITION, IF THE MOVIES WERE
CONVERTED TO AVI FILES (THRU A PROGRAM CALLED "VIDEO
MACH") THEY ALL PLAYED FINE.
I WILL TRY THE SUGGESTED WEBSITE. THANK YOU!

I believe your problem is something to do with the video
card in laptops-never a problem with desktop PC's

The permanent cure is to install a video driver that works
properly - that is if a fix is available for your
particular card.

The work around, which has always worked for me, is to
display computer video through the projector only, the
laptop screen is kept blank.

You do this by pressing the function key and an F key -
for example I repeatedly press ( Fn F5 ) untill the
projector only displays
