Power Point 97

S

SomeOne

From Back In the Dark Ages, I have my trusted Office 97. In that I have
Power Point 97.

Got a couple of questions if someone could kind of tell me if there is a
light at the end of the tunnel.

My experience with Power Point is quite limited but it appears that I am
going to have to learn a great deal more as I got selected as a volunteer to
put together a show related to youth sports.

I am running the PP97 on an XP Pro machine.

Following questions come up

Want to build a Power Point Show that will run in a non-Power Point
environment - Can Do???

Would like to include wave files in the show - Can Do??? Imbedded???

Would like to have some motion graphics in the show - Can Do???
Imbedded???

Would like to have some MPegs in the show - Can Do??? Imbedded???

Any version of the above that will allow you to do all three???
Imbedded???

Does any version of Power Point allow you to build a slide show that can be
played on a DVD player (The type that you watch movies on)???

If so, which version???

Any books that will take you through the process of learning from ground
up???

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Yes, the PowerPoint 97 viewer can be included so the end user does not have
to have Powerpoint on their system. see:
**Download Free PowerPoint Viewers
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00153.htm
As you can see there is a newer viewer available, but the earlier one will
support almost everything you can do from 97.
Would like to include wave files in the show - Can Do??? Imbedded???
Wav files can be embedded as long as they do not exceed the limit. That
limit can be set by you so almost any sized wav file can be embedded. This
will obviously make your presentations a bit larger. See the beginning of:
**Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or
email a presentation

If you mean GIF animated files, sure you can include them, but they will not
animate unless viewed with PPT 2000 or newer.

Would like to have some MPegs in the show - Can Do??? Imbedded???
Risky, at best. Not recommended. They are never, ever, ever embedded
Any version of the above that will allow you to do all three???
Imbedded???
You can do all from versions 2000 and higher, but movies are awfully
skitish and not recommended if you do not know what machine will be used for
playback. You can read up some at:
**Microsoft PowerPoint and Multimedia
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm
Videos are never embedded in any version.

Does any version of Power Point allow you to build a slide show that can

Mac versions allow for QuickTime output that can be converted using a DVD
burning program. Some other ideas for PC versions can be found at:
**Convert presentations to VHS or DVD video

I like Camtasia's the best, but if time permits, check them all out.

Any books that will take you through the process of learning from ground
up???
I like Kathy Jacob's 'On PowerPoint', but others may have other suggestions
as well.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

One caveat: if you insert animated GIFs in PPT97, they don't animate even when
viewed in later versions of PPT.
