Hi,
For the second time now I have had problems restarting after a power
outaget.
Our computer is a Dell Dimension 4700 running Windows XP profressional.
The first time was a storm but yesterday our son decided to turn off
the power strip to try and fix a game he was playing on the computer
that froze. He's only 8 so he didn't know this could be harmful.
What I am seeing after a power failure is that the machine comes up and
says it was not shut down normally and it gives you choices of how you
want to start up. No matter what option I select, the machine starts
to boot and says it is loading windows but never gets to the blue
screen - the screen just goes black and the machine is dead at the
point and needs to be rebooted.
Both times I was finally able boot the computer after a lot of
rebooting and messing around with restorning the OS to previously known
working days. Actually the only way I could get it to reboot was to
restore to an earlier day, then back to the current day which is really
strange and I really have no clue what it is I am doing that fixes the
computer. All I know is that if I keep rebooting and going into Safe
Mode with Networking and then play with the Restore OS feature I am
eventually able to boot up normally. Pretty scarey though.
Anyone have any ideas why this machine has problems rebooting after
power outage and why my method of fixing it is working?
Thanks in advance,
Steve
