I remember getting my first computer and everone saying
that they NEVER turned off the power off of there
computer. Just let it run 24/7. Now with the all the
upgrades to computers and MANY generations past my old
one. Is it still ok to leave your computer on 24/7. Or is
there a time limit like one or two weeks at a time. Then
you must turn off your computer to cool down. What could
be the answer to this issue?

Gregory

The answer is simply your personal preferences. Advantages of shutdown is that
you reboot when powering up and save on electric power usage. Advantage of
leaving power on-------it's ready to go.

It's NOT an issue. Leave it on - turn it off. Your choice! Doesn't matter
either way!

If there is something for it to be doing, you can leave it on as long as
you like. If you stop using it during the night you might as well turn
it off then to save power. The argument always goes between 'leave it
on it wears out' and 'its the shock of turning it on that breaks
things'. Neither of which is an overwhelming argument. The one thing I
would do is have power saving turn off the monitor after a few minutes,
especially on an LCD panel to conserve the back light

Well, if you just bought a brand new computer, what you can do is run it for
24 hours, to ensure that everything working properly, do this under warranty
though, so that if something does happen you have replaced without any cost
to you.

If you don't use, than hibernate. Next time you turn it on you will be back
where you left off.
Also it boots up faster.

Hibernate can be a disaster for a home user, if there are power
fluctuations.
