Power management settings - quick question

If the administrator user sets power settings on an XP
workstation, should those settings not apply to all users?

We have a situation whereby we have set an always on power
setting on a PC while logged on as administrator. However,
when you log on as a standard domain user, the setting
have changed, but as a standard user, you don't have
rights to set them back to always on. This system is on a
domain and we have tried setting the power settigs with
both the domain admin and local admin, but they keep
changing. Is there a group policy setting for this or
something?

I am having this same situation on my laptops. I contacted Compaq (HP
and paid for their software support only to have them tell me it i
beyond the scope of their responsibility. The extent of my proble
goes beyond just wanting to change the settings for all users: when ou
laptops go into standby mode, the freeze up and have to go through
"hard" shutdown. Any insight on how to get resolution to this proble
would be greatly appreciated.

I've talked to some co-workers here who have explained to me that although a
standard domain user (no admin rights) can't see the changes that the
administrator has made to the power schemes, those settings are actually in
effect. The folks that work on power management indicated that this is a
known issue; however, I scanned the KB articles and didn't see anything that
documented this. I'll follow up and make sure that we get this documented.
Thanks for raising the issue. I wish I had a better workaround or answer for
you, but for now the bottom line is that the settings are working even
though the non-admin user can't see those settings. Let me know if this is
different than what you are experiencing.

I was able get this "workaround" from the MS support site. It i
cumbersome, but attains the goal.
