In power management I set monitor off to 5min; disks off 10min; standby
30min. This works for a while. Later (sometimes a couple of hours) monitor
comes back on and system will not turn monitor off or put itself into
standby. I have disabled the screen saver. I have tried various combinations
of times. Always the same result. (I disabled virus automatic update). Any
suggestions appreciated.

Can you look in event viewer for me. Most issues can be resolved there. Is
the computer networked?
Event viewer cam be viewed from Right click My computer - Manage -
performance logs and alerts. Look for anything with an X next to it. you can
look up the error codes as you go. Post any that contain "wake" or "Power" in.

My laptop and desktop via router to share a DSL connection, printers and
files.

The even log has no entries containing Wake or Power.

Have same problem as "Canon". Had no results w/ suggestion from joe Mitchell.
Anything else?

No help so far. I am goint to disable my wireless network and see it the
problem continures. Will let you know.

ok. I disabled the network and everything worked (all day). So the network
seems to be wakeing up the desktop and once awake it never goes on stanby. So
a solution is to manually disable and enable the network when I want to use
the internet. Do you know of a solution to keep the network from doing what
it is doing?

I have the same problem. I set times for the monitor, disks and system to
shut off, click on apply and itt does not happen. Help!

I also have the same problem. Has anyone found a solution? It is really
frustrating. I try to remember to turn my screen off when I leave the
computer.

I posted a concern in this area yesterday but then came across this thread
that outlines the same problem. I see there has been no further input or
help to resolve the issue (on this site). Canon wrote that disabling the
network did solve the problem with his desktop. Of interest I have my laptop
networked via router and have the same power settings on the laptop. The
laptop powers down in standby or hibernate even though the network remains
intact. Why would one computer response to the power settings(laptop) and
the other (desktop) would not??
