Power scheme Problem

I set my computer to 30min.,1hr.,3hr.(monitor off, standby, hibernate) for my
power scheme and the power scheme didn't work at all. I was playing around
and set it at 5min.,10min.,20min., and the power scheme worked perfectly.
Then I set it at 10min.,20min.,45min., and again it worked great. I then went
back to 30min.,1hr.,3hr., and the power scheme didn't work. I tried different
settings and it seems that my power schemes work at a smaller time frame but
don't work with the longer period of time. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Do you know how to go into your computer's BIOS as it is starting up?
Usually you press the Delete key when you see the black screen.
In the BIOS, there may be a setting you can change to prevent the computer
from "waking" due to hard drive activity. A resting computer may
occasionally do a spontaneous maintenance task on the HD. The longer you
have the computer resting with the monitor off, the greater the chance of
this HD activity occurring, with the result that your Power Scheme never
completes its routine.
Check out your BIOS and see whether this might apply to your situation.

I just installed WinXP Pro and I have the exact same problem. Funny thing,
however, it was present when I was running Win2000. I have an ASUS
motherboard with P4 2.8 processor. When I was running Win2000 I called ASUS
and they said it wasn't the motherboard but rather the OS. So, what brand
motherboard do you have?

Thanks for the info. It's getting late and so I am going to check it out in
the morning. Also could any of my software(Nortons system works?) be
affecting the performance of the power schemes.

Norton System Works extends its tentacles all over your system. You may want
to disable or uninstall it temporarily if a BIOS fix does not help. Many of
the experts in this Newsgroup warn against Norton and avoid the Norton
software packages themselves.
