I asked a question about laptop start up in this group. It was either last
night or this morning. The post appeared and someone replied. Now it's
gone. ?

The "Laptop won't come out of Stand By" thread started at 3/6/2010 9:42
AM PST?

Still showing for me with one response on the web based reader on
microsoft.com and accessing the microsoft Usenet server through
Thunderbird 3.0.3.

Well, I can't find it. The fact that xnews isn't sorting the posts
correctly when I click on the date column doesn't, help but I can't find it
anywhere.

And this one will be gone by this time tomorrow. At least from my
computer.

I see it too

here is the one reply you've gotten thus far:

The normal exit from standby on a DESKTOP is via the keyboard or mouse.
Both have to be set up to do that. I do not have a LAPTOP but you might
look
into
configuring the mouse pad and the keyboard especially if the laptop is
'plugged in'.
Also look at power settings for power key settings. Is the power on key set
to exit
standby

Then check your newsreader for what messages it chooses to hide. It's
likely they are still there, just not shown.

Thanks. I need to know what's causing me not to be able to see posts which
apparently exist. I'm using xnews. Should I try another newsreader?

You probably have "read posts" set to hidden. Check it.

Do you have your newsreader set to hide read posts? Is your newsreader set
to expire posts after a set time period? Not having use Xnews before I have
no idea of where to tell you to look for those settings.

Sure try another newsreader, try as many as you like. You might find one
that you like even better...
