Possible worm/trojan?

Using win xp pro and am having a helluva time with what I think might be
a worm or trojan.
It's running extremely slow and every time I open a/any new application
I get the msg on an installer box of "Please wait while Windows
configures Microsoft Office XP Professional with Frontpage. " It then
attempts to install.. then comes up with an error finding the proper
PROPLUS.msi - So Because I have misplaced my CD I obtained the
PROPLUS.msi online and directed it to use the file. Then another file
was needed. OFFICE1.cab. I assume even if I had OFFICE1.cab that this
would be an endless cycle of files I would need anyhow. Applications are
closing/crashing at random when I cancel my way out of the Office
install. I doubt even having the cd and reinstalling Office would help
if it is a worm or trojan anyhow.

Any idea if this is a worm or trojan and any fixes out there I can
possibly get to? I Looked online a day or so ago and found a few threads
on a few sites about this same issue. But never found any fix/solution.

Thanks in advance.

How are you with regard to checking for viruses and spyware. Do you have a
Firewall installed?

You should update your virus definitions and run full anti-virus scan. If
you do not have anti-virus programme installed you can run a free scan from
the internet. Try this link:

Spyware causes many problems. If not installed download Adaware and update
Reference file from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and use it to remove parasites.

Jill,

Thanks for responding, before I disagree with you on this let me ask a
few more questions to you about your experience with this issue.
When you opened or moved your cursor to any programs or applications
that were running was it attempting to install then too?
Example: I just opened this thread to reply to you in my OE and an
installer window appeared and attempted to install Office with Frontpage
but to no avail. Which starts the endless cycle of installer msgs and
errors which will eventually lead to program shutting down and a send
error report msg. This happens each and every time I move to a different
window I may have running, or when I open any new applications. I am
having to type and send this while installer msg tells me its searching
for the file needed, so before I close those windows down I have to send
this reply. Because once I close those. OE will close. This make any
sense? I don't use frontpage and never have and rarely use MS Office.
As for uninstalling Office.. I tried, it will not let me uninstall it
because of the missing files and it completely locks up.

Thanks again in advance for any thoughts.

I ran my current AV ware and nothing turned up on it, I also ran my spy
stuff and nothing unusual turned up there either. I am going to update
my Adaware right now per your suggestion. Mine may be out of date.
Thanks.

This isn't a trojan/worm its a corrupt install of Office and or the
win.installer.
If Office was installed on yr sys why dont you have the cd, was it supplied
as the trial version when you purchased the sys?
