Possible shagged Hitachi 180GXP

D

Alright all?

Just purchsed a Hitachi 180GXP 123gb drive, but it does not show in BIOS. I
have tried it slaved, and as a primary master, but it simply makes a quiet
click / spin noise and doesn't register... have of course udjusted the
jumpers accordingly.

Am I to assume it's shagged?

Just in case it was a power supply problem, I also had it running alone,
after unplugging my other HDD and both CD drives... but to no avail.

I have a Dell Dimension 4400 on the original 2 year old BIOS if that makes
any difference.

Thanks in advance!!

You do know you have to format it, it may or maynot show up in the
bios depending on the BIOS and depding if the bios supports a 120 gig
drive, it can decide its not even a drive and ignore it.

Update your Mobo Bios and try again.

Hoep some of this helps, have you done this before ?

If you haven't done so, try resetting the NVRAM. On the MOBO is a set of
3 pins with a jumper across two pins. Usually this is designated J9. But
I am not sure on your board if this is true. If it is not obvious to you,
call dell support. If you do see the jumper that I refer to, then shut
down your system and disconnect the power cable. move the jumper to the
cover the center pin and the opposite pin. The power up your computer
with the monitor on. The bios info should come up with a new option to
reset password. enter yes...power down... up plug.. move jumper back..
power back up. This will force the board to redetect all the input
devices again.
