Possible network adapter problem

Hi,
I have an IBM thinkpad G40 with Verizon DSL connection.
Since yesterday I am not able to connect to the internet. I found that
my laptop no longer detects the IP address (TCP/IP). From the command
prompt, typing 'ipconfig' 'ipconfig/all' etc showed nothing. But when I
borrowed a friend's laptop and connected to my ethernet cable, typing
'ipconfig', did give the usual details (IP, DNS, Physical address etc).
So, I feel something is wrong with my laptop and not the network. Is
this a network adapter problem or is there any other source? Could you
advise me how do I go about it?

If any more information is needed, please let me know.

Thank you,

Sujata

Sujata,

I'd start by looking for an LSP / Winsock problem.

If that's not the problem, look for physical issues.
