possible macro virus?

I am unable to save and the open any document. I get an error message "file unavailable". The on closing Word asks me to save the normal file again. Also fails to open any templates. This started out of nowhere. I have Norton AntiVirus Corp- no hits. Any ideas? I have uninstalled and used detect and repair.

I mistakenly said I had Norton AntiVirus. I have Symantec Corp

The same thing happened to me. I have been trying all

day to straighten this out. I have uninstalled /
reinstalled twice. I have tried renaming normal.dot (and
its variant .bak's. I have tried deleting the
normal.dot/bak files and am at a loss. Ready to return
to Office 97.

P. S. Had W32.welshia worm sneak in undetected by
Norton. Have successfully eliminated that. Thought that
Office XP files had been corrupted which is why I
uninstalled and reinstalled.

Looking through the postings, it appears that Larry had

this problem on the 24th and has not had a reply yet.
Kinda depressing?

Your symptoms sound like those described in “OFF: Cannot Open Office
Documents or Cannot Edit Inserted Objects After You Install Office XP
Service Pack 2 or Office 2000 Service Pack 3” at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613. Ironically, the problem is caused
by a conflict with the Norton Office Plug-in.
