port 18457

Does anybody know what port 18457 inbound is used for ?
Reason I'm asking is because as soon as I got internet access today, I
was flooded with dozens of hits on port 18457 every minute, from around
the world, using dozens of different ports.

As a matter of habit, i usually double-click the dual-monitor icon for
my ISP on the right side of the task bar, or the balloon, when the
balloon pops up indicating the internet connection is established. This
time is when I noticed a flood of incoming Kbytes.

No damage done. I'm just curious if anybody knows what this attack is
about, or what application is the target. After logging off, and
logging back on, now there is no such attack.

Thanks in advance you guys. I often follow along here, learn new stuff,
try to contribute simple suggestions to simple questions sometimes, and
rarely post a question. You all have a safe and happy St Patrick's Day
tomorrow.

Thanks for trying, but your link does not say what application uses port
18457. It only says that IANA has not officially assigned that port.

Could that mean some application(s) actually use port 18457, but it has
not been officially assigned to any application by IANA ?

If that happens again use something like TCPView which is free from
SysInternals to see what process that port is using on your computer. High
ports like that can be an indication of a Trojan. Also be sure to scan your
computer for viruses and spyware in both regular and Safe Mode being sure to
use the latest definitions for anything you use. AdAware SE is free for
personal use and pretty good. It is also recommended that you scan with a
program such as Trojan Hunter or Ewido that I hear often catches Trojans
that malware and spyware programs do not. Be sure to use a firewall [test it
at a site like http://scan.sygatetech.com/ ] and at least temporarily you
may want to use a more advanced software firewall like Zone Alarm that can
alert you when unauthorized programs try to use the internet on your
computer. --- Steve
