Popup Messages/Ticket Tapes for PowerPoint

I'm interested in having a message popup over a powerpoint presentation
whenever needed. The slides would be actively displayed on a projector but I
would like to have a small box with a number popup in the bottom right or
left corner that the presenter can make appear by clicking an application,
entering the number and then having it display. The number would remain on
screen as long as desired regardless of going to the next slide. Does anyone
know if that is possible with PowerPoint or if there is a plug-in that
accomplishes what I'm describing? Thank you!
