how do I change powerpoint slide advance method using a remote

I have a powerpoint presentation which in presenter mode advances slides
using a space bar click. My remote advances slides using a mouse click with
cursor over advance (or back) arrows on presenter view. How can I change the
powerpoint file to advance using mouse clicks in presenter view without
having to keep the cursor on advance (or back) arrows. The cursur drifts off
the arrows when I'm presenting at a distance.

I use the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse (8000) in presenter
mode (with laser beam).
