POPing a remote exchange server, can't finish 20k of emails HELP

The issue is he is using pop3, I realize rpc/http should be used but can't
right now, there are 20k+ of emails, I took the PC to the main office and
downloaded all emails, he took the PC back to his house and outlook crashes
when hitting send/rcv, I renamed the pst and it now wants to download all 20k
again. Is there any way to tell exchange server not to download any old
emails?

No. The record of what has been downloaded or not is kept on the local PC and
is tied to the specific mail profile. Outlook 2010 is supposed to address
this. Renaming the PST is never a good way to approach this type of problem
because it can ruin the mail profile.

Thanks for the reply, however, if the info is in the profile then if I leave
the profile alone and just point to another pst file then it shouldn't be an
issue. My guess is it isn't in the profile.? Also if outlook crashes due to a
pst issue I have to rename the offending file and let it create another,
unless I am missing something?

Thanks Neo, I used headers only to get all of them down originally, Then
when trying to archive it only shows crossed out items that were deleted.
Maybe this is because outlook is set to leave on server. I cannot let those
items get deleted from the server mailbox.

its stored as a hidden file in the pst and is associated with the specific
profile - using the old pst with a new profile will have the same effect as
using the old profile with a new pst.

You'd be better off trying to figure out why it crashes and fix it - then
you can use the old pst. Since POP only does the inbox, another option is to
log in from work and move all the older messages that are in the first pst
to a new folder.

I like Diane's idea the best about moving all items out of the Inbox. At
the very least the user can move them back to the Inbox via OWA and puts the
user more in control of what should come down under a new mail profile.

Agree with Diane. Since the original items have been downloaded to PST
already, you can move the copies on the server side to other location.

What's the outlook version? Does the send/receive work now? If not, please
refer the steps below to troubleshoot the outlook:
1. Launch outlook in safe mode, see if the issue still persists
2. Disable all Non-Microsoft services in the MSConfig and launch outlook,
see if the issue still persists
3. Logon the machine with a new windows profile, create the mail profile,
launch outlook, see if the issue still persists
