Ver. 1.74 appears to be time-limited demo, install.

I've used 1.73 for awhile, truly freeware, only link I had was his site,
now closed.

Too bad, this is an excellent spam filter for manual filtering.

I've got a copy of an old version -- 1.24 -- if it's of any use to
anyone. (Non-install job; it seemed to work fine.)

The freeware demo is limited to one account profile, the registered
version allows you to create and use an unlimited number of account
profiles. In all other respects, the freeware demo is identical to the
full and unlimited registered version, and the freeware demo never
expires or nags for registration.

If you have created multiple account profiles in previous versions of
Popcorn, you will only see and be able to choose the first account
profile in the freeware demo (you can still view and edit all of them in
the Account Profile Manager). All account profiles will be available
again immediately after you have downloaded and installed the registered
version of Popcorn.

That was true for 1.73, have you run 1.74 and it does not expire without
registration? The site says it does.

Have you read the popreadme.txt packaged with v1.74? It doesn't say
anything about expiring.

It would seem: The last freeware version is 1.48.

Of course it doesn't support SSL encrypted server connections.

PopCorn
(Freeware) (last uncrippled Freeware versions)
Windows OS: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
Languages: English
Description: Popcorn is a freeware ultra-lightweight POP3/SMTP e-mail
client It works as a client/server application, reading mail "directly"
from POP3 servers. It is ideally suited for "on the road" mail access,
for scanning, reading and sending mail over slow connections. It
supports multiple user profiles, enabling you to read and send mail from
any number of accounts. It requires no installation, no data is saved
locally other than a portable .INI file containing account information.
It is ideal for cleaning up POP3 accounts, removing spam, unwanted mail,
large attachments etc... It has a mail editor allowing you to compose
and send new mail, reply to, forward and re-direct received mail. It
fits easily on a floppy or other portable (even read only) media, making
it easy carry around at all times. NOTES: Liteware version is limited to
one account.

In addition to the post that Susan submitted, you can still get versions 1.24
and 1.48 from here:

I read the download page, below:
Popcorn
version 1.74
Publisher: Ultrafunk AS
License: Shareware
Price: $20
Version: 1.74
Version Date: May 11, 2005

Under the shareware link: Shareware
This is fully functional software that you can download, try and decide
whether or not it's right for you. If you like it, you pay a nominal fee to
continue using the application after the allotted trial period expires.

This may be a generic statement, but it *is* listed as shareware.

For a single account, Ver. 1.73 works fine.

Since 1.48 is the last freeware version I'd expect any version after
that to be listed as shareware. As far as the shareware statement on
Tucows goes: It appears to be generic in nature, so with that said, I'd
say the readme packaged with the app spells out the terms and conditions
which apply to v1.74.

FYI v1.73 can be downloaded here:
