Just got this in my e-mail, and thought it might be of interest to
those here who use Netzero as a freebie e-mail account. Not
strictly freeware, but a (once) free service.

Dear NetZero Member,

We are making some important changes to our e-mail service for free
members.

As of June 1, 2004, NetZero Free members will be required to use
NetZero E-mail on the Web to access a NetZero e-mail account. There
is no additional cost to use NetZero E-mail on the Web and it gives
you 2MB of online e-mail storage space, Junk Mail Filters, and
access to your NetZero e-mail from any computer with Internet access
when you visit http://webmail.netzero.com

If you are a NetZero Free member and currently rely on an off-line
e-mail client such as Outlook Express to access your NetZero e-mail
account, this change will affect you. To continue using an off-line
e-mail client to access your NetZero e-mail after June 1, 2004, you
will need to upgrade to one of our premium services with prices
starting as low as $9.95 per year. To upgrade your service visit

Yeah, I read that...the storage is supposed to be something like 1
gigabyte per user? We'll see how well *THAT* works out...I'm a bit
skeptical about it, though. Oh, and the fact that it's web-based,
with no option for POP3 access (at least, not that I've read about) is
kind of a downer, but it'll still be interesting to try out.

But what I heard was that the e-mail will be searchable.
Like google will read your e-mail to determine what
type of ad's to serve to you.

This is a big privacy concern for me.

Bobby.
