Pop Ups

For some reason yesterday I started getting tons of pop
up ads while browsing. I left for a few minutes and when
I returned I had over 20 pop ups on the screen. I never
had this problem until yesterday. Any ideas on why this
would happen all the sudden. I have not downloaded
anything recently and I ran Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search
and Destroy but I am still getting the pop ups. Any help
would be appreciated.

Did you update them before running them?

if u r xp machine .have you turned off messenger? find it
in services and choose disable.(this is not instant
messenger). worse popups if you have a static ip address.
or is your browser maybe hijacked? spybot has immunize
feature to help stop some hijackers.

What is it when IE is hijacked? My IE cannot run Google taskbar anymore that was very helpful in getting rid of the pop ups. Now my machine is like his.

Thanks for responding. I am an XP machine. I do have
messenger turned off and the pop ups are still coming. I
tried to use system restore to go back but that is not
working either (but that is a whole other problem).
Thanks again.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Yes I have an XP machine. Messenger is turned off. I
think maybe my browser may be hijacked. I have run
SpyBot and Ad-Aware. Is there some other software like
these two but more powerful? Thanks again.

I have ran all the programs (Ad-Aware, SpyBot Search and
Destroy), HiJack This, SpySweeper, Shredder and even ran
virus scans and Trojan QHost and nothing has seemed to
work. The one spyware that all of them seem to find is
one called PurityScan. I tell Ad-Aware and the rest of
them to remove it from my system but it keeps coming
back. Even after all these, I still am dealing with Pop-
Ups. Any other suggestions on how to get rid of this
stuff would be greatly appreciated.
