John Fredericks

I am getting a periodic pop up and I have no idea where
it came from. How do I make it go away. It pops up
frequently, somestimes every few minutes. It is a window
labeled Network Connections and says:

You (or a program) have requested information from
rs.gator.com.
Which connection to you want to use?
Connections:
MSN Explorer
American Online

When I highlite either one, there is no such web site.
It then allows me to check a box which says Don't ask
again until the next time I log on.
There are three options:
Settings Connect Cancel

It is very annoying and I would love to know how to get
reid of it.

Hi John,

Gator is spyware that is installed on your machine. You want to remove it.
Adaware from www.lavasoft.de can help.

Go to www.webroot.com and download the free spysweeper rogram that they
offer. Run it on your system and it will clean out all the spy stuff.

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Xupiter, Bonzai Buddy, or
KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately (but without
understanding the consequences) installed, two products that are
quite effective (at finding and removing this type of scumware) are
Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions. It's even
possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your system
against most future intrusions. I use both and generally perform
manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:

PC Hell Spyware and Adware Removal Help
http://www.pchell.com/support/spyware.shtml

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

Does the Webroot software cleans out M$'s own spyware stuff? I doubt it!

rs.gator.com is not part of MS WIndows and Webroot should remove it.

Also, AD Aware 6 and Spybot Search and Destroy will take care of it.

Y.
