Pop-up windows won't open

Hello:
Any advice/help would be appreciated...

It's easiest to explain the IE problem by example:

Go to www.orbitz.com
The small image of a calendar, right next to where you
choose the date you want to leave and return on a
flight. You are supposed to be able to click the
calender image and have a new window pop up where you can
select a date by clicking through a virtual calendar.
When I click the calendar image, nothing happens...no pop-
up window.
Another example:
I have a gmail email account and recently was given the
option to "Invite a friend to join Gmail!" - this is the
text of the hyper-link. Clicking the link is supposed to
open a new pop up window. Unfortunately, nothing happens
when I click the link.

SO, something is blocking these windows from opening.

Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is?

Thanks a lot.

I encountered the same -- looking at the TV Guide site
and the pop-up windows for specific programs would not
open. Took a bit to realize the Pop-Up Stopper I had
installed also stopped the ones I WANTED to pop up by
clicking on links. So I just disable it (doubleclick the
tray icon) on such occasions. [This is not an "expert"
reply -- just saw your question after posting my own.]

One of two things is causing this: Either you have Scripting disabled (not
an unwise idea), or you have a pop-up blocker installed, or of course both.
Google toolbar has a pop-up blocker built-in for example. If it is pop-up
blocker related, usually holding down the Ctrl key while clicking the
desired window, link, whatever, will enable the pop-up window to work as
desired. But if scripting is disabled, nothing will get the window to open
unless you enable scripting (generally a bad idea; particularly if one surfs
a lot, and/or visits unsavory or *mega huge whitebread* sites.) or at least
have it set to prompt. Then when you access the site, it'll ask if you want
to enable scripting and you can then have all the pop-up stuff you want (and
then some). ;-D

BTW, I tried it (your orbitz calendar thing), and it didn't work until I
enabled scripting. The pop-up blocker had no effect upon it. Control
panel>IE Options>Security> active scripting (either enable or prompt). Also,
if you are on a page that requires scripting, and you click something and it
doesn't work; you must refresh/re-load the page to work once scripting is
permitted or you will just get an error showing on the status bar.
