pop-up window is stupidly blocked in XP but not 2000

Re Win XP and IE 6 -----

For some reason a pop-up window is getting blocked, but I don't want it
blocked:

I go to a site and go to a page where there are links to audio (MP3) files
to listen to on-line. I click on one, and a half-size window opens (without
any menu bar or tool bar) and starts to play the audio. In that window
there is also a link to download the audio.

I click on the download link, and a little red fist pops out briefly, and
another window (small window with download rules and link for the real
download window) pops open, but disappears after a second or two. I can't
download the file, even if I quickly click on the link.

However, on the LAN there is another pc which is running Win 2000 and has no
similar problem.

I have tried all kinds of different settings, including turning off the IE
pop-up blocker, but no luck. Any ideas?

I think that red fist is supplied by an Earthlink application.

You know, that might be true. However, I have all (I think) of my Earthlink
stuff shut down -- maybe something is running I'm not aware of. When I do a
ctl-alt-del, it's not in applications, and, I can't identify it in
Processes. I may need to call Earthlink.

Well Earthlink is the problem. Even though I clear the Earthlink toolbar
when Pop-up Blocker is turned off, it automatically goes on when I clear the
toolbar.

Hi,
The red/orange hand/fist is the Earthlink Scam Blocker.
http://www.earthlink.net/software/free/toolbar/#learn
You should be able to disable that feature from the Earthlink Toolbar.

Hope this helps,
Don
