pop up messages

We have Windows XP loaded on our computer. We keep
getting pop up Service Messages.
If you go to www.endads.com it states that this was
endluced in Microsofts Windows XP, 2000, and NT.

How can we get rid of these annoying pop up messages?

Thank you.

If you wish to solve your pop-up problems once and for
all, consider purchasing and installing a third-party program
designed to do just that:

Norton Internet Security 2003

-- Includes Norton AntiVirus 2003
-- Includes Norton Personal Firewall
-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
-- All in one, easy-to-install package

Are you leaving the open ports on their computer for a reason?

You could try searching for the other half of the solution. THE OP NEEDS
TO INSTALL A FIREWALL.

Some firewalls have a popup stopping feature, I believe Zone Alarm has that
feature. However, unless it has that specific function, it won't in and of
itself stop popups.

The messenger popups we are talking about happen because the NETBIOS
ports are open - a firewall stops that!

Yes, that's true. I should have expanded the comment. Unless you were
really familiar with what was being said in this thread, a novice reading it
might then think a firewall would stop popups on the Internet at web sites
and possibly ask why his firewall isn't working. I should have clarified, I
apologize.
